Ministers agree to work on national student concessions
Thank you for signing the petition in support of the National Union of Students Fair Fares for Students campaign to provide cross-jurisdictional recognition of student concessions.
Today I raised the issue of national student concessions and presented your petition at a meeting of State and Territory Community Services Ministers in Sydney.
I am pleased to say that all State and Territory Ministers agreed that that reciprocal recognition of concessions is an important issue for students across Australia.
States and Territory Ministers supported the ACT Government to chair a new Inter-jurisdictional Working Group On Certain Concessions for Student Card Holders which will explore the feasibility of providing national recognition of student concessions.
This is an important first step in helping students who travel regularly interstate and are currently unable to access concessional transport fares.
I look forward to updating you on the progress of the Interjurisdictional Working Group, and I would like to thank you again for raising this important issue with me.
